What is molded fibre & how is it produced?
Molded Fiber Products are made from 100% compostable agricultural waste and other sourced biomass that reduces the use of paper and plastic alternatives.
Inputs include:
- Bagasse
- Wheat Straw
- Bamboo
- Hardwood
- Softwood
It is a viable replacement to plastic because of it’s 3 key attributes:
Residual agro-waste are repurposed into endproducts in molded fibre units
- Farmers produce sugarcane, bamboo, rice, wood chips, coffee, etc.
- Produce goes to commodity processing units (mills) which produce respective residual agro-waste
- Residual agro-waste from agro-processing units go to pulp mills
- Ready pulp sheets go to molded fibre units to produce end-products for consumption. Pulp sheets are re-pulped before being fed in to the thermoformers
It is a viable replacement to plastic because of it’s 3 key attributes:
Performance Parity
- Can hold liquid much longer than paper products
- Can be molded into many shapes and sizes
Cost Competitiveness
- With increased scale today costs are only 1-1.5x of plastic
Speed to market
- Technology has helped increase the route to getting new products to market
- We can get prototypes of new products within 2-3 weeks.
